Inmarsat Selects EMS Technology To Design Next-Generation World Wide Satellite Mobile Phone

Inmarsat's next-generation dual-mode satellite phone and GSM mobile cell phone. The contract, which expands EMS's marketplace focus beyond aeronautical broadband, is for approximately $26 million.

The new cellular phone will assist each terrestrial GSM and GMR-2+ satellite operation, and using an omni antenna will detect whether a user is inside a cell coverage area and, if not, automatically switch for the world wide satellite television network.
