A Sailboat Model Is A Wonderful Nautical Decor

I have always enjoyed sailboats and everything that is linked to them. They have been my passion every since I was a child.

The first model sailboats I had were huge and colorful. They weren't really built after a certain vessel, nor did they keep a coherent level. They were meant to be toys and amuse me, not a genuine representation of a boat. Those model sailboats were produced of plastic that was resistant against bad treatment. The sails were made of the same sort of cheap plastic that market bags are produced of, so that they could be quickly replaced if torn. And boy, did I tear mine a lot.

Once I grew up, I started to collect additional realistic design sailboats, which were centered on the sailboats I saw in the gulf that was close to where I resided. Unlike my first model sailboats, these sailboats had a scale which they respected, in order to maintain the size of a genuine sailboat. Those sailboats weren't they kind you had to assemble; rather, they came already constructed and ready to play. I learned later on that some of these weren't supposed to be put on water. Instead they came with a foundation and were meant to be put on display. This was a strange concept to me at the time, which resulted in several of those model sailboats sinking and being lost inside the bottom of the sea.

I eventually graduated from those model sailboats to the type that I had to construct and paint myself. They had been a blast, and I had a lot of fun using them. I started with simple ones and worked my way up to really complex model sailboats that included little motors as well as some welding.

I suppose I must not have been that bad at the hobby, as my father liked one of them so much, he hang it on display on top of our chimney. I was so proud of it, and I never ever forgot to casually mention it whenever somebody came to visit. It wasn't until then that I realized why a few model sailboats were meant for display, and not for placing them inside the water.

My greatest achievement was when I managed to construct one that was distant controlled. I assume it was the first sailboat in my adult life in which I loved more playing with, than assembling.

I do not assemble model sailboats anymore. I lastly identified a much more costly hobby. I bought myself a genuine sailboat, which takes much more of my time and cash that my model sailboats ever did.
